When calculators were introduced in middle-school math classes, there was hesitancy from Baby Boomers and GenX about their impact on education. Some feared a decline in standards and increased cheating. However, the reality was quite different. The integration of calculators led to more challenging problems, advanced solutions, and a faster problem-solving process, signifying the evolution of education.
Today, discussions revolve around the use of AI in education. There are reports of students leveraging tools like ChatGPT for writing assignments, while professors strive to identify AI use among students. Some educators even utilize AI to generate educational content and responses.
In my opinion, instead of focusing on detecting AI usage, it should be embraced as a valuable tool in education. For instance, rather than requesting a traditional thousand-word essay, why not encourage students to express their ideas through videos, reflecting the TikTok culture, and then articulate how AI contributed to their content creation process.
Education and training methods are constantly evolving, and it's essential not to confine oneself to a single approach. Embracing technological advancements like AI can enhance learning experiences and prepare individuals for a multi-dimensional future.
*Note: I wrote this article, then had AI rewrite it, and then I re-read it - working together because AI makes mistakes just like humans.
